With her head in her hands on the edge of her bed, she could physically feel the tender parts of her soul that she had suppressed for so long being chipped away, leaving only madness behind. Was this the famous House of Black curse that she had heard in her aunt’s whispers? She had built her reputation off of being the eldest daughter of Cygnus Black, of being cold and unfeeling toward anyone who dared cross her.
Why couldn’t she be like her mother, keep up the charade and pretend to love Rodolphus for an easy life? Why could she not look at him without feeling her throat lump and her jaw set? Why did a blonde, half-blood parasite have to emulate the feeling of love when they were sixteen, and to perform it so well that anyone else that dared utter “i love you” in her presence seemed like frauds?
