With the power distribution systems offline, the ship’s emergency lighting flickered to life, bathing every corridor and room in a sickly red glow. It was just enough light to see a short distance ahead— Unfortunately, the moment of visibility wouldn’t last long.
The generator that supplied power to the emergency lights failed in a tick, plunging the ship into a black so deep that it swallowed the stars outside.
That’s when the crew heard it: a rhythmic, metallic tapping that echoed not from the hull, but from inside the vents.
